Starts in Hanwell on Saturday 7th March
Fairtrade Fortnight 2015 takes place from 23rd February to 8th March and this year Ealing Fairtrade Group is joining with its counterparts in four neighbouring boroughs to organize a West London Fairtrade Walk on Saturday 7th March.
The aim of the walk is to highlight the Fairtrade Mark and draw attention to the places that sell or serve Fairtrade products, but at the same time follow an interesting route taking in local places of interest.
Walks will take place in Harrow, Brent, Ealing, Hounslow and Richmond, culminating in a joint Celebration of 20 Years of Fairtrade in Chiswick.
In Ealing the walk will start at St. Mellitus Church in Hanwell, and proceed via West Ealing, Northfields and and South Ealing to Ealing Green. Here it will pause to give walkers the opportunity to visit some of the shops and cafes in Ealing Broadway that offer Fairtrade food and drink, and then will continue via Ealing Common to Acton Town, and finally to St. Michael and All Angels Church in Chiswick, where walkers from all five boroughs will come together.
The meeting points are:
11.00 am: Pre-walk Refreshments at St. Mellitus Church, Church Road, Hanwell, W7 3BA
12.00 Noon: Stage 1: Walk starts from St. Mellitus Church, and proceeds via West Ealing, Northfields and South Ealing to Ealing Green
1.15-2.15 pm: Visit Fairtrade shops and cafes in Ealing Broadway
2.15 pm: Stage 2: Walk restarts from the horse statue, Oak Road, Ealing Broadway Centre, and proceeds via Ealing Common to Acton Town
3.15 pm: Stage 3: Walk restarts from The Apple Tree Café, Acton Town Station and proceeds via Acton Lane to Acton Green
4.00 pm: Arrive at 20th Anniversary Celebration of Fairtrade at St Michael and All Angels Parish Hall, W4 1TX.
Anyone not wanting to tackle the whole distance is invited to join part of the walk in their local area - and then continue to Chiswick by public transport (Turnham Green is the nearest tube station). Those who find walking too slow are welcome to join Ealing Eagles runner Wei Hei Kipling, who is planning to cover 17 miles of the West London Fairtrade Walk as part of her training for the London Marathon, which she is running to raise funds for Traidcraft.
The Celebration of 20 years of Fairtrade is a joint event of the five Boroughs taking place after the walk on 7 March at the Parish Hall of St Michael & All Angels on Bath Road near Turnham Green station. There will be Fairtrade tea, coffee and stalls to greet the walkers and others: entry is free and open to all from 4 pm. The formal start of the event will be at 4.30 pm with welcome and opening by Mary Macleod MP followed by talks and films:
Closing comments at 6 pm will be followed by tasting of Fairtrade chocolate generously supplied by Divine Chocolate and Fairtrade wine generously supplied by the Co-op
