Brentford Festival Promises To Be Biggest Ever

See Boston Manor Park come to life on September 2nd

The Brentford Festival is held in Boston Manor Park, Boston Manor Road on the first Sunday in September each year.

True to form, this year it will be held on Sunday, 2nd September from 12 noon until 5.30 p.m. and it promises to be better than ever.

The event will be opened by the Mayor of Ealing and the Mayor of Hounslow, jointly, and they will also be unveiling a restored portrait of Col. James Clitherow whose family owned Boston Manor House from 1760 until 1923. There will be a rare opportunity to visit the rooms of this 16th Century Grade I listed hous.

This year there will be two stages with bands playing all day and a whole host of other entertainment. Here's just a taste - a dog show, sampler training for children in football (Brentford FC and our local Spartans Youth FC), tennis (our local Boston Manor Tennis Club) , rugby (Grasshoppers), canoing (Brentford Boating Club), cycling (as well as instruction, Ealing Cycle Campaign will be providing maintenance courses and Brentford Police will be security marking bikes),

There will be a repeat of the ever popular car boot sale with up to 40 spaces available. Download an application form from the Friends of Boston Manor web site or turn up on the day but be prepared to part with £10.00 cash (cars and non-commercial), £20 (vans and commercial) and vehicles must be on site by 11 a.m.

In addition to crafts (hand-made jewellery, garden trugs and much more), the following community groups will be making an appearance:

  • Hounslow/Ealing Friends of the Earth
  • Ealing Veggie Group
  • Brentford Recycling Action Group
  • Cranford Kestrels Trampoline Club
  • Forever Living Products
  • Brahma Kumaris
  • Green Trading Co.
  • Mulberry Centre/Friends of Mulberry

  • Phoenix Trading
  • Hounslow Toy Library
  • Osterley Park
  • Hounslow & District Acquarist Society
  • Fire Brigade,
  • Metropolitan Police
  • Age Concern,
  • HACAN

Two licensed bars will provide a variety of refreshments, serving anything from soft drinks, beer (real ale and lager), shandy and wine, to a delicious cool glass of Pimms - No 1, of course! The Old Fire Station Brentford will be offering cocktails with a carnival feel and a variety of Food Stalls including Sri Lankan, Thai, Chinese, burgers and chips will not leave you hungry. Plus there will be a Farmers' Market.

Flyte Entertainments will provide a small, traditional fair with:

  • Swing Boats
  • Chair o Plane ride
  • Tea Cup Ride
  • Toy Set Ride
  • Cork Shooter
  • Ball in the Bucket
  • Children's Prize Striker
  • Candy Floss Stall

There will be a giant inflated slide. The Park Children's play area will be open as usual but children must be accompanied by parents or other responsible person. There will also be many children's activities, such as face painting, dance workshops, etc. Teas, coffee and cakes will be served from the Pavilion Cafe, as usual - a place to rest and recharge the batteries!

Contact the Friends of Boston Manor if you can help to organise football, tennis, car boot sale, setting up band/stage equipment, preparing and selling afternoon cream teas, or can provide any back-up help with administration, printing, photocopying, posters, etc., by emailing info@fobm.org.uk.

The Friends of Boston Manor will be running a Quiz on Saturday, 1st September at 7 p.m. in order to raise funds for security at the Festival as well as facilities for the Pavilion Cafe and other projects in Boston Manor Park. Entry and an up-market ploughman's meal costs £10.00 per person for teams of up to 6 people. There is also a licensed bar. If anyone is interested in entering a team, contact Jan Jones at info@fobm.org.uk or by telephone on 020 8758 0565 and be ready to give a team name.
