Coldest Night of The Winter - Temperatures Plummeting

Weather causing more disruption throughout London

The UK has suffered its coldest night of the winter so far with temperatures plummeting to -22.1C (-7.8F) in the Highlands.

Overnight temperatures of -10C (14F) were widespread, leaving commuters again battling icy roads and pavements amid "stretched" road salt supplies.

Ealing Council say their priority is to keep major arterial roads and bus routes open, although gritters have now also covered all secondary routes.

Gritting operations began at 2pm on Tuesday. Gritting and salting is also taking place on footpaths and pavements in priority areas, such as the main shopping areas and around schools and hospitals.

Many schools remain shut in Ealing. Those that notified the council of closure yesterday are listed below. Parents are advised to check with individual schools.
