Legal action is underway to evict travellers from Pitshanger Park.

The group of approximately 12 caravans plus cars, vans and trailers - arrived on Friday (30th June) and concerns have been raised locally that some have been driving cars and quad bikes in the park at night.

There had been fears that a junior park run may have had to be cancelled but after consultation it went ahead as normal on Sunday.

Park users are however being advised to keep away from the site whilst the authorities deal with the situation.

Cleveland ward Councillor, Lynne Murray, tweeted: ' to avoid confrontation we urge people to stay away from the travellers in Pitshanger Park''

The council's action team, Parkguard and the police are all aware of the situation and are believed to have it under control. Legal action is being taken to evict them.

An Ealing council spokesperson said:

“As soon as we were aware that there was an illegal encampment at Pitshanger Park we took immediate action alongside the police and our contractors, Park Guard, and visited the site to commence the checks and assessments that we are obliged to carry out. These are now complete, we will begin formal action to move the encampment on. This normally takes around five working days.

“Pitshanger Park is well used and loved by local residents and is not suitable for an encampment of this type. We have an official site in the borough specifically for travellers.”
