Police have been thanked for their speedy response in evicting the latest incursion of travellers at Orion Park in Northfields.

Officers served an eviction notice on Thursday - a day after their arrival late on Wednesday night.

It's believed they were the same encampment - around nine caravans - which had previously been based at the former BT Telephone Exchange Building on Gordon Road.

According to Cllr David Millican the police had been in 'extensive dialogue' with several of the travellers who were made up of 16 adults and 20 children. It is alleged that the group have moved the barricades and broken the chain to gain access.

The site is now owned by Network Homes, the housing association who have bought the site for development. Cllr Millican contacted their director and the Ealing Council Community Safety Manager.

Last year the same site at Orion was left overflowing with illegally dumped rubbish, and this week a neighbourhood watch email alert said the travellers had started to fly tip at the site once again.

James Guest, chair of the Northfield Ward SNT Panel, thanked police and council for their speedy and proportionate response.
