Huge water container outside Town Hall may cause slight disruption
There may be some disruption in Ealing tomorrow lunchtime (9/03 from midday ) as an emergency planning exercise gets underway.
The council along with water suppliers Affinity and Thames Water will test how the borough would respond if there was a disruption to the borough’s water supply.
It's the first exercise of its kind in London and a large container holding up to 1000 litres of water will be installed on the pavement outside Ealing Town Hall.
Threre will be no need to close the road or pavement, but there is likely to be some disruption to traffic for a short time while the bowser is installed and partially filled with water from a tanker.
There will be temporary disruption later in the afternoon when the bowser is removed.
Council Leader Julian Bell said: “It’s vital that we work with water companies to ensure that if there is an incident that affects supplies, that we have plans in place to provide water to residents. These large bowsers have never been used in London before so it’s important that we carry out a practical test to ensure that if there’s a real emergency we can respond quickly.”
