Borough's infection rates continue to fall but remain worst in London

Community effort to tackle virus continues
Ealing still has the worst infection rate in London at 71.4/100,000 people. Of the 10 Ealing neighbourhoods I check every day three of them had fewer than 2 new cases. The highest rate I found was Southall Green at 140.9. The lowest recorded figure was 39.8 in Northolt West.
559,000 First Covid-19 Vaccinations in NHS North West London by 21 February 2021
This figure was recently released by the North West London Health & Care Partnership Group and relates to the week ending 21 February 2021. Vaccine supplies were expected to significantly increase from 15 March 2021. The target for second vaccines is 11 weeks after the first dose. In Ealing the highest percentage rate for vaccine take up was 96% of all 70 to 74 year olds. On 13 March 2021, 512,108 first vaccinations were performed across the UK.
Over 100,000 Covid-19 First Doses Given to Ealing Residents
A big thank you to all NHS staff, Community Pharmacists, GP staff and volunteers who have all worked together to make this happen.
Covid-19 South African Variant
No figures have been released about how many South African variant cases have been detected in Ealing. Apparently more than 300 have been detected in the UK so far.
Unprecedented Anger Amongst Ealing Residents About Multiple Council Decisions
To add to the stress of Covid-19 lockdown, there are 1,000s of Ealing residents objecting to a number of Council initiatives. These initiatives include those listed below.
Low Traffic Neighbourhoods
The Council has employed new Experimental Traffic Orders (ETOs) with a further 6 month public consultation with the 30 road blocks still in place. Research into further legal action against the new ETOs is underway.
Perceval House
The public viewing technology failure at the 10 March 2021 Council Planning Committee meeting contravened the Covid-19 virtual meetings protocol and could lead to the meeting being declared invalid. Over 2,000 formal objections were lodged about the plans which the Council approved. Legal opinions are being sought.
Victoria Hall
It seems the Charity Commission has agreed to Ealing Council’s plans to dispose of Victoria Hall, our largest public indoor venue, to a hotel developer. We will certainly lose the community use of this space if the disposal actually takes place. Lawyers are being consulted by objectors to block this plan. More on this link.
Gurnell Development
On 17 March 2021 Ealing Council Planning Committee will decide on a plan to build 599 housing units in 6 tower blocks on Metropolitan Open Land on the Gurnell Leisure Centre site. Over 1,600 formal objections have been submitted. More on this link.
Manor Road Tower
Southern Grove, the would-be developer of a 26 storey residential tower next to the new West Ealing Station, has appealed to the Secretary of State to overturn the Council’s rejection of its plans in 2020. Over 2,600 objections were lodged against the plans. More on this link.
