Eric Leach's Ealing Covid-19 Latest Update

'100 people per week in Ealing are being diagnosed with coronavirus'

‘100 People per Week in Ealing are Being Diagnosed with Covid-19’

So reported Ealing Council’s Public Health Director Ms Anna Bryden at the Council’s Health & Wellbeing Board virtual meeting on 24 September 2020. She also admitted that Ealing Council had (at last!) requested to start its own local track and trace system. (It doesn’t take a genius to conclude that Baroness Harding’s NHS Track & Trace system is a £10 billion flop).

2 Covid-19 Deaths in Ealing 5 September to 11 September 2020

There were 6 deaths in London and 70 in England. There were 92 new Covid-19 infections in Ealing between 16 and 23 September 2020. Ealing’s Covid-19 infection rate/100,000 people according to Ealing Council during 14 to 20 September 2020 was 26.9. In London it was 25.2 and across England it was 44.7.

To put the Ealing numbers into perspective, in 2018 the Office of National Statistics estimated the Ealing population at 341,982. NHS England stated in September 2019 there were 441,683 patients registered at the 75 GP Practices in Ealing.

Ealing is now, apparently, a Covid-19 ’area of concern’ - as are all London’s 33 boroughs.

At Least 23 Schools in Ealing Now Have Covid-19 Cases

‘My London’ on 25 September 2020 covered this disturbing story. Three schools have officially reported Corvid-19 outbreaks.

11 Ealing Care Homes Have Reported New Covid-19 Outbreaks

Two care homes are partially or wholly closed as a result of Covid-19 infection.

Misconduct in Public Office

Councillors Bell and Sabiers admitted on 26 September giving misleading information about involving the London Ambulance Service (LAS) in the Covid-19 response 30 Low traffic Neighbourhood (LTN) roadblocks. More here.

Misconduct in public office is a criminal offence at common law which dates back to the 13 th century. The offence carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. More here.

Councillor Bell narrowly avoided losing his job as Council Leader on the evening of 28 September 2020. An emergency vote of no confidence was forced by his Ealing Labour Councillor peers, triggered apparently by his Covid-19 response behaviour. He just won it by 27 votes to 26 votes. More here.

Today’s fall out from this is that Councillor Peter Mason has resigned from the Ealing Council Cabinet. Who will take his place as portfolio holder for Housing, Planning and Transformation?

Opposition to Covid-19 Response LTNs Is Still Growing

The anti-LTN petition has risen to over 8,800 signatories and viewing of the exposurebox.com LTN videos has exceeded 13,000.

On the morning of Monday 28 September 2020, contractors turned up at the junction of Elers Road and Churchfield Road to install an LTN 30 road block. They were met by angry local residents who pointed out that because there was an error in the Traffic Order the installation could not go ahead. The protestors showed the contractors the error and their correspondence with Ealing Council. Eventually the contractors left with no road block installation. More here.

LTN 20 (West Ealing North) was installed on 29 September. We can all soon expect even more vehicle traffic on West Ealing Broadway.
