Seasonal news - how to make your Christmas Day a local one
Make your Christmas dinner extra-special, extra-fresh and local at Ealing farmers’ market in Leeland Road every Saturday from 9am until 1pm. Organic turkeys and geese from Food Fore Thought – www.wickhammanor.co.uk (01797 226 216) Free-range turkeys and geese from Ixhill Farm (01844 338 855) All the seasonal vegetables (Brussels sprouts, celeriac, parsnips, carrots, squash etc.) you’ll need from Perry Court organics, Manor Farm and Perry Court farm to make the best traditional Christmas meal imaginable. Look out for Christmas cakes and edible decorations courtesy of the Great Little Food Company on the 1st and 15th December. Aishling, of Yummy Cakes, will have Christmas cakes, Christmas-themed cupcakes and gingerbread biscuits on the 8th and 22nd December. Christmas puddings will be brought along every week by Alham Wood. There’ll also be festive mince pies to nibble on, thanks to the Celtic Bakers, from Cricklewood. Lincolnshire Poacher’s cheese will be at market on the 15th December – their last appearance before the new year, so don’t miss them on that date if you want to stock up your cheeseboards. Festive cold-eating pies will be available including Farm 2 Kitchen’s traditional ‘Festive Tudor’ Pie. They’ll also have a range of game casseroles; rabbit, partridge, pheasant and venison. At market 1st and 15th December. Harvest Bakery will be coming down from Bedfordshire on the 8th and 22nd December with a special seasonal range on top of their usual range of pies. This will include a five-bird pie (containing turkey, duck, chicken, goose and guinea-fowl), a pork and chicken pie and their award-winning mincemeat tart. On the 22nd December pick up a Christmas preserve hamper from Sadie Jennings, of Kush Cuisine (www.kushcuisine.com), containing apple and cranberry jam, strawberry, fig and orange jam and five-fruit and whisky marmalade. Don’t forget to buy a home-grown Christmas tree from Martin and Heidi Fermor, of Perry Court Farm, who’ll also have cobnuts, Christmas wreaths, mistletoe and Brussels sprout ‘trees’ amongst their range of seasonal products.
