Joined by London College of Music students for Christmas concert
December 19, 2024 A recent Christmas concert by the Ealing Wind Orchestra has raised £330 for a local foodbank. The adult ensemble for wind, brass and percussion players was joined by students at the London College of Music (LCM) last Friday (13 December) at the Weston Hall, University of West London. In front of an audience of around 18 people they performed a programme that include Holst First suite for Military Band, John Williams Hymn to the Fallen Sousa Liberty Bell March, Colin Skinner McRae's Battalion, Fauré Pavane, a selection from Les Misérables and two world premieres. LCM student composers Sunghoon Lee and Katrine Aziz performed their own compositions for the first time. The Ealing Wind Orchestra is planning to hold two concerts annually, one at Christmas and one in the spring with the next performance scheduled for Friday 9 May 2025. The group meets on Wednesday during term time and it is always interested in welcoming local people who want to play. Musicians under 18 can join if they bring a responsible adult with them. It is particularly keen to encourage people from traditionally underrepresented groups to join and write music for the orchestra to perform. One of the main organisers of the Ealing Wind Orchestra is Dave Gordon-Shute who is as a professional tuba player and teacher. He performs with the orchestra for Birmingham Royal Ballet and is a founder member of Onyx Brass. If you are interested in joining contact ealingwindorchestra@gmail.com.
