Fragments by Stefano Fugazzi gives a different view of the familiar
September 17, 2026 An Ealing-based photographer is turning his attention from local documentary photography to the shapes, colours and patterns hidden in everyday surroundings in his latest photobook. Stefano Fugazzi, who publishes his work under the Postcards Pictures imprint, has released Fragments, a collection of minimalist photographs exploring form, colour, light and the relationships between objects and the spaces around them. The book follows Fugazzi's previous photobooks focusing on Richmond upon Thames and the Borough of Ealing, but takes a different approach. Rather than concentrating on a particular place, Fragments asks the viewer to look at familiar surroundings in a different way. Everyday scenes of architecture, landscape and urban life are stripped back to their essential elements, with lines, curves, shadows, textures and blocks of colour becoming the main subjects. The result is a collection that moves between abstraction and reality, with photographs of modern architecture appearing alongside coastal scenes, geometric patterns, minimalist façades and small details discovered in the urban environment. Fugazzi's approach is described as a "thoughtful exploration of visual perception", with the photographs encouraging viewers to consider not simply what an object is but how it occupies space and interacts with everything around it. Modern architecture provides some of the collection's most striking images, with glass, steel and shadows used to create geometric compositions. Human figures occasionally appear as silhouettes or small details, providing a sense of scale while retaining the minimalist character of the photographs. Colour is another recurring theme. A blue window against a white wall, a red hose, sports-field markings and a yellow circle against dark timber are among the types of everyday details transformed into photographic subjects. The photographs are linked through recurring colours, shapes and patterns, giving the book a sense of continuity despite the variety of locations and subjects. The title Fragments reflects this approach, with each photograph working as an individual fragment while also forming part of a larger visual sequence. According to the review, the strength of the collection lies particularly in this sequencing, with the images creating what is described as a "visual conversation" rather than following a conventional narrative. The photographs are rooted in observation rather than being entirely constructed or staged. Chance encounters, fleeting moments and ordinary details remain important, giving the minimalist compositions a sense of warmth. Fragments is available in softcover and digital editions through Blurb Books, where the book can also be previewed and purchased online. The official launch will take place at 2pm on Saturday, 3 October, at the Red Lion, 13 St Mary's Road, Ealing, W5 5RA. The launch day will also see another part of Fugazzi's photographic work showcased locally. Two of his photographs have been selected for display in Walpole Park as part of the annual wildlife photography exhibition organised by the Ealing Wildlife Group.
