Course participants give their take on Shakespeare's comedy
June 18, 2026 Shakespeare’s most enchanting comedy is stepping into the spotlight in Ealing in July, as The Questors’ graduating Advanced Performance Course brings A Midsummer Night’s Dream to The Playhouse from 10 to 18 July. Audiences are invited to slip into the Athenian forest for an evening of moonlit mischief, tangled affections and the kind of theatrical magic that has kept this play at the heart of the repertoire for more than four centuries. The production follows four young lovers who flee the city on the eve of a royal wedding, only to find themselves lost in a woodland ruled by feuding fairies. As Oberon and Titania clash, the mischievous sprite Puck sets off a chain of enchantments that muddle hearts, swap affections and turn the night into a whirl of confusion and wonder. Meanwhile, a troupe of well-meaning but hopelessly chaotic amateur actors arrives to rehearse their play, only to be swept into the same magical storm. By dawn, everyone has been transformed, though not always in the ways they expect. The show marks the culmination of a year’s work for the young performers of Questors’ Advanced Performance Course, who take on one of Shakespeare’s best-known and best-loved plays with fresh energy and a sense of fun. The production promises a lively, imaginative take on a story where spells misfire, love triangles twist themselves into knots and the line between dream and reality blurs delightfully. Performances run at 7.45pm, with a 2.30pm matinee on Sunday 12 July. There is no show on Monday 13 July, and a captioned performance will take place on Thursday 16 July. Tickets are £16, with Season Pass and concession prices available. And for those who want to extend their summer of theatre, Questors will also be heading outdoors later this month with Cluedo: The Play in Walpole Park, offering a very different kind of mystery in the open air. More information and booking details for A Midsummer Night’s Dream are available online.
