Major Exhibition of Work of Pop Art Pioneer Announced

This November, Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery will open its doors to one of Britain’s most beloved artists with Peter Blake: In the Studio, a major exhibition celebrating the life and work of Sir Peter Blake. The show promises a rare glimpse into the creative world of the man often described as the godfather of British Pop Art — whose career spans seven decades and whose influence stretches from the gallery wall to the record sleeve.
At the heart of the exhibition will be a full-scale recreation of Blake’s Hammersmith studio. Visitors will be invited to step inside the artist’s working environment, surrounded by the curiosities, memorabilia and artifacts that have inspired him for generations. Alongside this immersive installation, the gallery will display paintings, collages, sculptures and works on paper that trace Blake’s fascination with popular culture, music and film — from the exuberance of the 1960s to his more reflective later works.
Blake’s connection to the area runs deep. He first lived in Chiswick in 1957, returning permanently in 1979, and his ties to Ealing’s creative heritage are woven throughout the exhibition. References to the Ealing Club, where The Rolling Stones and The Who played their earliest gigs, and to Ealing Studios’ cinematic legacy, highlight the cultural landscape that shaped his imagination. Works inspired by William Hogarth’s Marriage à la Mode and Gin Lane will also be shown in the Manor’s Small Drawing Room — the same space where Hogarth’s A Rake’s Progress once hung at the invitation of Sir John Soane.
Curated by Jake Twyford and Louise Shorr, Peter Blake: In the Studio will offer an intimate portrait of an artist whose playful, nostalgic vision helped define post-war British art.
