LatinoLife to be followed by As One in the Park LGBTQ+ event
July 18, 2024 There will be festivals non-stop in Ealing’s Walpole Park this weekend with two major events taking place. This Saturday (20 July) there will be the country’s biggest date in the Latin diaspora music calendar with the LatinoLife In The Park Festival. This year it falls on Colombian Independence Day this year and showcases live artists including an exclusive show from Colombia's Jimmy Saa who joins home-grown talents Desta French, who's already played the SXSW Festival in the States as well as the Jazz Cafe and had tracks on BBC 1 Xtra (Camden Town). Desta curates and performs at the Latinas Of London pop up Live sessions as well as setting up La Chonga platform and its Tia Mia events to promote and enjoy Latin London creatives, entrepreneurs and supporters, and connect what they bring to the city. She is flanked by fellow London Colombian Dukus who's worked with Giggs and Knucks; Classico Latino, Jari Castillo, The Indios and Latyno Bbi. Now in its eighth year, it describes itself as the Latin version of Notting Hill Carnival in a park and provides an opportunity to sampling latin culture. There will be five stages, live artists, parades, immersive areas dance, urban showcase and food & drinks stalls. There's also a VIP Area and dedicated Dance Tent where couples, friends and dancers can dance all day to a changing soundtrack that includes salsa, bachata, reggaeton, hip hop, R n B and house - a huge diverse set of sounds and DJs. The following day (Sunday 21 July) the first ever As One In The Park Festival will turn Walpole Park all colours of the rainbow as it celebrates the LGBTQ+ community. It promises to be a day pride, diversity, and festivities with Drag Race UK winners Danny Beard & Baga Chipz headlining alongside DJ's Hannah Wants and Absolute.
There will be a special focus on supporting local talent and grassroots culture, the As One Festival showcases up-and-coming musical and artistic stars from the London LGBTQ+ scene across 4 stages and a VIP Area. Self-taught turntablist Hannah Wants and Absolute head up the Main Music Stage alongside a cast of collectives and clubs such as Uokhun?, Beef Mince and many more. Known for her deep, tech and rolling, bass-driven sounds, with an ability to combine classic influences, Hannah has headed up events at Printworks,Parklife Festival, and BBC Radio 1’s Ibiza event. Absolute bringing his ‘big neon energy” to the Main Stage, and best known for his Remix of Kylie’s anthem-of-the-decade “Padam Padam”. His high-octane musical style has seen him headline False Idols at Drumsheds, Dalston Superstore, Bristol’s Club Love as well as recording a BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix Live from Glastonbury. Rupaul's Drag Race UK winners Danny Beard and Baga Chipz headline the Cabaret Stage. Danny Beard is the season four champion, where they broke records as the first bearded Queen from all franchises across the world, to win. The multi-talented performer will bring a club kid aesthetic with old school drag performance mix to As One Festival.
Sprinkling magic on the festivities alongside Danny is fellow Ru Paul Drag Race UK star, Baga Chipz, and flanked by some new artists on the scene including Amy Laqueefa, Brandy X, Chantelle Ayanna, El Conchitas, Flesh And Bones, Not Just That Jade, Pork Elizabeth Pie, Silverhook, Smiley Vyrus, Son Of A Tutu and Ysheblack. With a special focus on supporting local talent and grassroots culture, the As One Festival showcases some of the brightest up-and-coming musical and artistic stars from the London LGBTQ+ scene across 4 stages and a VIP Area. The event runs from midday to 10pm and tickets cost £16.88 including booking fee for entry before 3pm and £28.13 afterwards. Tickets can be bought for a party of three at a cheaper price per person.
