Professor Jonathan Phillips to Talk About the Crusades
Ealing Historical Association lecture will look at modern day perceptions

The next meeting of the Ealing Branch of the Historical Association will see a talk by Professor Jonathan Phillips on the subject of the Crusades.
The lecture will be titled ‘The Memory of the Crusades in western Europe and the Near East from the C18th to the present day’ and will be given Tuesday 10 September , 7.30 pm at Ealing Green Church, The Green W5 5QT with doors open at 7.20pm.
Jonathan Phillips has been Professor of Crusading History at Royal Holloway since 2005. He is the author of numerous books on the crusades, most recently The Life and Legend of the Sultan Saladin (Bodley Head, 2019).
This talk looks at the changing ways in which the Crusades have been viewed from the Age of the Enlightenment to the present day, and from both Christian and Muslim perspectives.
All welcome. Members pay £15 per annum and for visitors a donation of £5 per talk is suggested with no payment expected from students.
Meetings are usually held on the second Tuesday of each month at Ealing Green Church at 7.30pm, with the exception of the November meeting which takes place at Twyford School at 6.30pm. Talks are live events but with the speaker’s permission the association aims to make a recording available afterwards to those registering on Eventbrite (the booking link will be available on our website one month in advance of each talk)
