A festive retelling from the Saltmine Theatre Company
November 28, 2024 A festive retelling of a classic fairy tale is to be staged at the Haven Green Baptist Church. Saltmine Theatre Company is presenting its version of Red Riding Hood in which the story is turned on its head, using magic, music, and lots of comedy to examine ideas of belonging, the meaning of community and the Christian message. On the longest night of the year, Ruby's village is preparing for winter's most extravagant event – welcoming the 'Light' at the Christmas Party. However, when local hero Austin crashes in to report a dangerous wolf on the loose, the celebration is thrown into jeopardy. Feared to be set on ruining festivities, the wolf is rumoured to threaten the very future of the town. Guided by her sense of adventure – and a mysterious summons – it is down to Ruby to journey into the heart of the forest and discover the truth behind the stories. Who can she trust in this deep, dark wood? The two-hour production (including interval) is suitable for all ages and is taking place on Wednesday 11 December at 7pm. Rachael Orrell, CEO at Saltmine Theatre Company said, “This year, our new Christmas show Red Riding Hood shares the message ‘You Belong’. We are passionate about the intrinsic value of every individual and we believe this show will empower a sense of belonging throughout communities this Christmas.” Tickets can be bought online and cost £10 for adults and £5 for children.
