Get Set for Hanwell Carnival This Saturday |

Community organised event to be held in Elthorne Park

The annual parade will leave the Hanwell Community Centre at 11am and make its way to the park for noon where the community organised carnival will be officially opened by Cllr Yvonne Johnson, the Mayor of Ealing. Every year the parade contains decorated floats from local community groups and schools featuring many participants in costume. The Hanwell Ukelele Group (HUG) will be returning as well as local scout, guide and Brownie groups. The theme for this year, which is the 126th time the event has been run, is Hanwell Through the Seasons. The main stage is open right from the off with singer-songwriter Ben Richardson first up, followed by The Surgeonaires (regular performers at the Duke of York) and then at 2pm carnival favourites HUG will be performing. Following that, there is a chance to hear from the young musicians of the Powerjam Band Project and the TJ Holy Boy Johnson and the Preachers reprise their set from the Ealing Blues Festival Headlining on the main stage at 5pm is London Zulu led by Soweto born Ingrid Webster and featuring members of London's original global funk pioneers Transglobal Underground. The Community Stage, which opens at 1:30pm, will feature dance from a number of local groups including Irish dancing, bhangra and Zumba as well as the Me-Time Pop Choir and members of the Pauline Quirke Academy, and lots more.
As well as live music and dance, there will be over 50 stalls at the carnival around half of which will be supporting local charities plus traders and crafters selling clothes, art and baked goods. The most popular event of the day will be the dog show which starts at 1pm and owners can also enrol their pooch for classes from Kat Williams of Dogworthy. Attractions for kids include a funfair, go-karts, face painting and an animal farm with donkey rides and a petting zoo with Shetland ponies and reptiles. Food stalls will offer cuisine from all over the world and teas and coffees are available. The Dodo Micropub will be running a licensed bar. The carnival ends at 6pm at which point volunteers will begin the task of cleaning up the park.
