West Ealing Butcher (and Ealing Today forum regular) Tony Luckhurst and hairdresser Michael Sylvester featured on BBC TV's Inside Out programme last night (Monday 8th March) looking at the impact of shop closures on the high street.

The programme painted a fairly bleak picture of the impact of the current economic downturn however Mr Luckhurst paid tribute to Ealing Council's efforts to regenerate shopping centres.

West Ealing Neighbours has provided the council with suggestions about ways to improve the look of their main shopping throughfare.

WEN wants empty shop fronts to be brought back to life with temporary displays by local artists, exhibitions of historical photos and for providing community information.

WEN has put forward these and other ideas to the council but is awaiting for the go-ahead.

You can catch the programme for the next 6 days on BBC iplayer at http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00rdxqp The item starts at 10.55 minutes in.
