Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Primary School in is moving forward with plans to build a swimming pool in its grounds, with the aim of having it ready for children after the Easter holidays.
A planning application for a lawful development certificate (ref: 261147CPL) has been submitted to Ealing Council by Nathalia Croudace, a director of Gliders Swimming — a company that provides swim coaching to school-age children and is understood to be facilitating lessons at the new pool.
The proposed facility would be located in the top playground at the rear of the school buildings on Little Ealing Lane. Both the enclosure and the pool are described as semi-permanent structures, meaning they can be removed if required.
The swimming enclosure and plant room would span 9 metres wide by 20 metres long, with an eave height of 3.5 metres and a ridge height of 4.96 metres, covering a total area of 180 square metres.
The proposal follows a process in which pupils were asked what new facilities they would like to see at the school. Suggestions ranged from the ambitious — a helter skelter — to the popular — a tuck shop — but a swimming pool emerged as a firm favourite.
When the headteacher Clare Walsh revealed the plan at a recent school assembly, the announcement was met with a loud cheer from the children.

The school is aiming to have the pool up and running in time for pupils to use it after the Easter holidays, making for a swift turnaround if planning approval is secured in time.
The application is currently under consideration by Ealing Council.
