As the debate about the future of the town centre rumbles on one of Ealing's curry house institutions has quietly closed its doors to be be replaced by a discount store.

Monty's Tandoori restaurant - near the Post Office in Ealing Broadway, shut last month. Managers say the last two years have proved difficult and they have been struggling with rent and rates, but plan to re-open another branch in Hounslow.

The site is not being left vacant for long. Discount trader Poundland (which closed a branch in West Ealing last year) will open later this month - creating 30 new jobs.

Poundland's Trading Director, David Coxon, said: "We're absolutely thrilled to be opening a store in Ealing, creating jobs and great shopping opportunities.

"I'm sure the savvy shoppers in the area will be delighted by the amazing value that Poundland offers.
