Perivale Brewery has announced that illustrator and author Chris Riddell OBE will transform the wooden hoardings surrounding its Horsenden Farm base with a new large‑scale artwork to be created live later this month.

Riddell will paint The Perivale Wyvern on Sunday 22 March as part of an all‑day public event at the farm. Visitors will be able to watch the mural take shape and speak with the artist about his process. The event is free to attend, offering what the brewery describes as a chance to bring “something beautiful” to a site currently affected by essential safety works.

The hoardings were installed by Ealing Council last December after surveyors identified structural defects in the historic farmhouse. While the brewery and the Friends of Horsenden support the safeguarding measures, both groups were keen to ensure the farm remained welcoming and visually engaging.

“We’ve obviously been impacted by the hoardings and closure of our courtyard, but from adversity comes opportunity, and we realised we could turn the boards into something beautiful,” said Perivale Brewery co‑founder Christian Perrins. “We’re honoured to have Chris come down to the vale and work his magic.”

Riddell, a former Children’s Laureate, has collaborated with the brewery before, including a 2023 live‑drawing performance that raised funds for the homelessness charity Just Life.

Friends of Horsenden chair Sarah Murphy said the mural marks a hopeful moment for the farm’s future. “Since the Friends of Horsenden was first formed, Horsenden Farm has been a hub for creativity and resilience within the community. We hope that this will be the first step in a new chapter for Horsenden,” she said. “The mural will bring a spark of inspiration as we work with the council in developing plans for the future of the farmhouse.”

Perivale Brewery, founded in 2019 by musicians Mike Siddell and Christian Perrins alongside entrepreneur Mike Petricevic, has become known for its community‑focused approach, from charity concerts to local sponsorships. The brewery is part of the Friends of Horsenden collective, which works with Ealing Council to protect and enhance the farm and surrounding nature reserve.

The live mural event takes place at Horsenden Farm on Sunday 22 March. Entry is free.
