Local health trust urges avoiding attending A&E other than in an emergency December 20, 2023 London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust (LNWH) which manages Ealing Hospital has issued advice to residents during the latest series of junior doctor’s strikes. The first round begins at 7am on Wednesday 20 December and finishes at 7am on Saturday 23 December. Doctors will then strike again from 7am on Wednesday 3 January until 7am on Tuesday 9 January. Hospitals are expecting the period to be particularly pressured, as the two strikes will take place either side of the Christmas bank holiday period – traditionally a busy time for the NHS. Hospital bosses are appealing for people to do all they can to avoid coming into A&E except in an emergency. Dr Jon Baker, Chief Medical Officer at LNWH, said, “Strikes will affect all inpatient and outpatient services at Central Middlesex Hospital, Ealing Hospital, Northwick Park Hospital, and St. Mark’s Hospital. “We are rescheduling many appointments and planned procedures. If we need to change your appointment, we will send you a new date as soon as possible. If you don’t hear from us, please come to your appointment as usual.” The greatest pressure will be felt in A&E. People should still ring 999 in an emergency but call 111 or visit 111.nhs.uk for help if it isn’t. Dr Baker added, “Anyone coming into A&E can expect a longer than normal wait. Pharmacies or primary care are well equipped to advise and manage on a wide range of conditions we often see in the emergency department. “We’re always here to care for you in a life-threatening emergency.”
