Mael Gael Wins Queen's Award for Community Service
Southall based project catering to the elderly and youth honoured
Volunteers with the Mael Gael Multicultural Community Project
Buckingham Palace announced this Wednesday (2 June) that the Mael Gael Multicultural Community Project has been awarded the prestigious Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.
Mael Gael is based at Norwood Hall in Southall and it caters for the elderly and young people in the area.
The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service is the highest national accolade available in the UK and is awarded to local volunteer groups across the UK to recognise outstanding work done in communities. It is the equivalent of an MBE for volunteer groups.
In making the award it was noted, “The work your group does for the community was very much admired by the independent National Assessment Committee, chaired by Sir Martyn Lewis CBE, and I am delighted that your group has been selected to receive the Award in 2021. This represents a tremendous achievement for your organisation and we hope that everyone involved, and particularly your volunteers, will feel immensely proud of it.”

I am delighted for all our volunteers who have put in thousands of hours of hard work and commitment over the past six years. I congratulate the Gurdwara Singh Sabha Executive Committee, the Mael Gael Trustees and Team for their unwavering support and encouragement.”

Mael Gael will receive the award crystal and certificate from the Queen’s representative for Ealing later this summer. Two volunteers from Mael Gael will also attend a garden party at Buckingham Palace in May 2022.
It received the award at the same time as LagerCan a group of litter-pickers from the Ealing area.
