Police Helicopter - Why It was Out Late in Northfields

Called to help following attempted robbery

A police helicopter over the Northfields/South Ealing area late on Monday night (27th February) kept a number of residents awake and asking (via the social network site twitter) exactly what was going on.

Police have now told us that at 11:20pm they responded to a report of an attempted robbery near Northfields Underground Station involving three men.

They searched the area and two men were stopped and arrested for possession of an offensive weapon.

As the search continued for the third man, local officers were helped by the Metropolitan Police Air Support Unit (the helicopter).

The two men arrested have been bailed to return to a west London police station on 16th March 2012.

Enquiries are on-going in relation to a third male.
