There has been increasing frustration among local sports teams who claim they have been kept in the dark over the prolonged closures of the Elthorne Sports Centre in Hanwell.

A representative of one football team which has used the facilities for over twenty years said, “The changing rooms have been unavailable (locked) for more than a fortnight. This is not acceptable and has impaired the enjoyment of a large number of people in the local community.”

As well as the changing rooms, washing/showering and toilet facilities are unavailable.

The centre has been temporarily closed due to ongoing refurbishment work which the council says is necessary to improve and update the facilities, including its sports hall, gym, and outdoor pitches. The work includes maintenance of the 3G pitch, the multi-use games areas (MUGAs), and other amenities to ensure they meet modern standards and safety regulations

An Ealing Council spokesperson said, “Repairs to the roof of the gym and male changing rooms at Elthorne Sports Centre are continuing. Work is expected to be completed within the next two weeks.

“We have kept members and customers informed of the closure with signs at the centre, messages on the Everyone Active app and Elthorne Sports Centre website. We apologise for any inconvenience caused as a result of this essential work.”
