The Liberal Democrats have announced another slate of candidates in a ward likely to be a key battleground in next year’s local elections.

The party is hoping that Francesco Fruzza, Adam Keenan, and Mandy Lurie can improve on the fourth place the party achieved last time out in Ealing Broadway.

The Conservatives were a few hundred votes ahead of the Labour candidates in the ward’s three seats in May 2022 with Julian Gallant, the current leader of the Conservative group, Anthony Young and Seema Kumar election.

These councillors make up three of the four the party has on the council and the Lib Dems appear to be targeting a total wipeout of the other opposition group next year announcing early their candidates for wards represented by Conservatives. They recently revealed their selections for neighbouring Hanger Hill ward where the Conservatives have one of the three seats. The Lib Dems have also announced their picks for Walpole ward which is likely to be a target for both parties.

If this was achieved it would represent an astonishing decline for the party which controlled Ealing Council as recently as 2010 and, up to then, had been the largest party on the council every decade since the sixties.

Francesco Fruzza said, “I’ve lived here my whole life, raised my family here, and dedicated years to local organisations, from Age UK Ealing to the Pitshanger Area Forum. I understand the challenges we face and I’m ready to be a strong voice for residents on the Council. Ealing Broadway deserves a councillor who knows the community, cares deeply, and will work tirelessly to keep it safe, green, and thriving—and that’s exactly what I intend to do.”

Adam Keenan emphasized his party’s grassroots approach, “Our strength comes from listening and acting. This is what we will continue to do, week after week. If elected, I will work with Ealing's growing number of Liberal Democrat councillors in campaigning against the closure of children centres, scrutinising proposals for unsustainable developments, fighting to protect our green spaces and finding workable solutions to London's crime epidemic.”

Mandy Lurie focused on safety and transparency saying, “If elected as councillor, my priorities will be to make our streets safer and our community cleaner. I will work with the police and council services to improve street safety through better lighting, increased patrols, and community safety initiatives... I will push for consultations to happen early and to properly include the views of residents.”
