The Ealing Film Festival has announced that Ealing Studios is to sponsor the comedy award at this year’s Ealing Film Festival.

It is hoped that the national and international profile of the studios and its place in the history of British cinema will encourage more submissions to the festival particularly in this category.

Charlie Fremantle, Ealing Studios Manager said, ‘Ealing Studios the home of classic British comedy and film is proud to sponsor the Ealing Film Festival Comedy Award 2025’.

Locally-based comedian and presenter Mel Giedroyc, who is a patron of the Ealing Film Festival, welcomed the news saying, “How thrilling that Ealing Studios, the cradle of so many iconic British films, should be sponsoring the magnificent Ealing Film Festival! It’s a match truly made in celluloid heaven.”

Festival co-founder Annemarie Flanagan added, “We are delighted to have the internationally famous Ealing Studios on board, supporting Ealing Film Festival in this way. We want to encourage more comedy - it's needed more than ever these days and we urge all filmmakers to submit.”

With well over 250 entries from 36 countries received for this year so far, and there are still 3 months left to enter, the festival is promising a stronger than ever line-up with screenings at Ealing Picturehouse and ActOne cinemas for 2-4 October.

As well as the Comedy Award, other categories include Narrative Drama, Documentary, Sci-Fi and Fantasy, Horror and Suspense, Comedy, Animation, Green Planet, Experimental, Student, Music Video, VFX, Smartphone, Horror / Suspense, and ‘Homegrown’ – aimed at filmmakers living, studying or shooting their films in Ealing and its surrounding neighbours.

Applications are now open to submit films through the online platform filmfreeway.com. The running time of the finished film can be as short as the filmmaker likes, but no longer than 20 minutes. The final deadline for entries is 18 July, with discounted prices for early submissions.
