Young Film Makers Take a Fresh Look at Ealing |

The Met Film school enters collaboration with local Civic Society March 26, 2025 A new film entitled, ‘Echoes of the Past, Visions of the Future’, was premiered at Ealing Project last Thursday afternoon (20 March). It was a collaboration between Ealing Civic Society and MetFilm School Ealing. The local amenity group had asked students to take a new look at the Ealing area. The thinking was that those who have grown up in Ealing, or lived here for a number of years, have a clear view of what Ealing means to them. But what does it mean to younger people and perhaps those that have found themselves in Ealing only for a short time? This is what Ealing Civic Society asked MetFilm School students to consider. As Jenny Gadsby, Ealing Civic Society membership secretary said, “It is my role to recruit new members, something all societies are finding increasingly difficult. Our active committee members do not represent the borough's population in terms of age or ethnicity. This is a new step to engage with new potential members. “Thursday saw the first public viewing, of what we are calling a Premiere …the chosen film, from a number submitted by students, will hopefully be the forerunner of many such collaborations.” The event gave participants the opportunity to talk and listen to students, and with people interested in Future Visions of Ealing. Ealing Civic Society funded the screening and MetFilm School funded the making of the film. The fully subscribed event was attended by many Society members and invited guests who complimented the students’ work. It is now planned to disseminate the film more widely to promote both the Society and MetFilm School and to engage young people in thinking about what Ealing means to them. All involved hope that this collaboration is just the first of many and attendees enthusiastically supported the possibility of further films, with several suggestions being put forward. Ealing Civic Society was established in 1967 when many of its founding members were closely involved with local residents’ associations in opposing the Council’s plans to re-develop the centre of Ealing. Its purpose is to work to preserve and improve our borough, with a particular emphasis on recognition and conservation of local heritage. It is a registered charity and a member of Civic Voice.
