Speculation about the future of the Ealing Project is continuing locally with some suggesting that closure may be imminent.

A post on social media earlier this week by Sarv’s Slice, which runs the pizza concession at the front of the venue, said, ”A little PSA [public service announcement] to let you know that we're going to be moving away from the Ealing Project. Having a place to serve up our pizza in Ealing was our dream and it's come with so many highs over the last few months. We had hoped to be here for the next 5 years and have put an incredible amount into the space but unfortunately due to landlord issues, which have resulted in them closing down, we're going to have to move. We wish we didn't have to but it's completely out of our hands.

“We had hoped we'd have a little more time as Sarv and I both know we've outgrown the space. We want to thank every single one of you who has come down and queued with us, eaten with us and had a blast with us in the past 7 months.”

Sarv’s Slice is expecting to cease trading at the Ealing Project at the end of the month.

There has been uncertainty about the prospects for the venue ever since The Really Local Group (TLRG) announced it was going into administration last October with debts exceeding £2million. This included substantial amounts owed to its landlord, Ealing Broadway Shopping Centre, HMRC, film distributors, and Ealing Council. Despite these financial issues, the cinema has continued to operate, with the liquidators Begbies Traynor indicating that the venue's assets would have greater value to any potential investor if it continued as a going concern.

TLRG subsequently announced that it was stepping back from the management of the Ealing Project. Details of the new arrangement have not been publicly confirmed but it is generally believed that the operations continued to be ultimately controlled by the administrator. It is understood that creditors agreed to concessions to allow the continue to remain open and the venue pledged to honour existing memberships and maintain its current pricing.

The departure of Sarv’s Slices come after last month’s announcement by Mahaba Café that it was switching to a new venue.

The venue’s web site currently only lists screenings until 29 May although this is not unusual for independent venues. The ActOne cinema currently has listings up until 31 May.

We have requested an update from Begbies Traynor and messaged the Ealing Project through the contact details on its web site but are yet to receive a response.
