Bassam Mahfouz says bus will deliver more efficient travel
September 11, 2025 A public consultation is underway on a new express bus service—Superloop route SL13—which would connect Ealing Broadway to Hendon War Memorial via Brent Cross and Neasden. The proposal forms part of Transport for London’s (TfL) ongoing expansion of the Superloop network, designed to improve orbital connectivity across outer London. If approved, SL13 would operate as a limited-stop service, linking key transport interchanges and town centres along its corridor. The route is intended to reduce journey times and offer a more direct alternative to existing services, particularly between Brent Cross and Ealing, where passenger demand remains high. As part of the proposal, existing route E7 would be extended eastward from Haven Green to Ealing Common via New Broadway and Uxbridge Road. This change would remove E7’s current stop at Haven Green, affecting approximately 400 weekday passengers. Bassam Mahfouz, London Assembly Member for Ealing and Hillingdon, has publicly endorsed the SL13 proposal and is encouraging residents to participate in the consultation. Citing the success of SL8—which saw an 18% increase in ridership in its first year—Mahfouz described the initiative as a “bus revolution” and called for further expansion, including a potential express route parallel to the existing 65 service between Ealing Broadway and Kingston. Earlier this year, Mahfouz outlined a broader vision for Ealing’s transport future, emphasising the need for improved orbital links to reduce car dependency and support climate goals. He highlighted that many residents face long and inefficient journeys across West London due to limited direct connections between outer boroughs. The Superloop, he argued, offers a strategic solution to this gap, particularly for areas underserved by rail. TfL’s consultation outlines that SL13 would operate seven days a week, from approximately 05:00 to 00:30, with buses every 12 minutes during daytime hours and every 15 minutes in the evenings and on Sundays. The service would use double-deck vehicles equipped with accessibility features and onboard amenities. The consultation remains open until Wednesday 22 October, and TfL is seeking feedback on proposed stop locations, service frequency, and potential impacts on existing routes. A final decision will be informed by public responses and an updated Equalities Impact Assessment. For full details and to submit feedback, residents can visit TfL’s consultation portal.
