First national veterans day event this Saturday
This Saturday (27 June) is the first ever national Armed Forces Day and a special event will take place on Ealing Green. There will be musical performances by the Prince of Wales division band, demonstrations by army chefs, fun activities organised by the Parachute Regiment and displays by associated charities. A formal ceremony will take place at 2.30pm in front of the war memorial at Pitzhanger Manor when the Mayor of Ealing will present veterans with UK Armed Forces and UK Merchant Seafarers Veteran Badges. Armed Forces Day honours the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving troops to Service families, and from veterans to recruits. The Royal British Legion is also commemorating Veteran’s Day with a parade to celebrate and pay respect to the Armed Forces, followed by an open day at the Legion. The event will begin at 10.30am at the Royal British Legion,182 Oldfield Lane South, Greenford. Council Leader, Councillor Jason Stacey, said: “This is an important day and one that we will continue to celebrate in Ealing. This is a chance for people to show their support and find out more about the work of the Armed Forces.” The Ealing Green events will take place in front of the war memorial at Pitzhanger Manor from 11am- 4pm.
