Young’s, the pub chain which owns The Grange in Ealing, has issued an apology after a friend of Shappi Khorsandi was asked to leave the premises.

The 52-year-old comedian was in the pub this weekend with a group of her fellow mature students from the college where she is studying for a master’s degree.

According to a post she made on Instagram, the group was approached by the female manager and told that one of the party must leave as her attire was not appropriate for a family pub.

She was wearing an ankle length skirt, but it was alleged that her underwear was visible beneath it.

Ms Khorsandi told her followers on social media that this made no sense as members of the pub’s bar staff were showing bra straps. She further alleged that another member of staff barged into her while they were being asked to leave.

She added that she would never return to the Grange and fellow students at the college would also not be back.

She posted, “Just a little reminder that women don’t need to be policed for wearing summer clothes.

“She was wearing a completely normal summer outfit. The female manager told her it was a ’family pub and to cover up’.

“Congrats @thegrangeealing, you’ve upset a beautiful human for not being a nun, and just lost the loyal post-class trade of your local college.”

The post was liked over 4,000 times before being taken down.

Following the incident Young’s issued a statement saying, “We recognise that on this occasion, our manager may have misjudged the situation in her interpretation of the smart casual dress code we respectfully ask customers of the Grange to adhere to, and we have apologised to the impacted party for any offence caused.

“We are working with the team at the Grange to ensure the pub remains an inclusive place for all, a key priority for us.”
