A derelict canal boat caught fire near Greenford Road last Thursday evening (30 October).

According to London Fire Brigade, the incident occurred at approximately 8:58pm and prompted seven emergency calls. Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters from Southall, Ealing, and Northolt stations responded to the scene. The fire was brought under control by 10:22pm.

The vessel involved was a derelict canal boat, which was completely destroyed in the blaze. There were no reports of injuries, and the boat was unoccupied at the time. The fire took place near Greenford Road, close to the Grand Union Canal, an area that occasionally sees abandoned or unused boats moored along the towpath.

The cause of the fire has not been determined, and investigations are ongoing. The incident has raised concerns about the safety and monitoring of derelict vessels along London’s waterways, particularly in areas where residential and recreational use of canals is increasing.

If you’re in the area and have concerns about canal safety or derelict boats, you can report issues to the Canal & River Trust.
