Police offer support to Sikh community after death of Kirandeep Kaur

Deputy Commissioner Matt Jukes visited Sri Guru Sabha Gurdwara in Southall on Friday 31 July, offering reassurance and solidarity to Sikh communities across London in the wake of the tragic death of Kirandeep Kaur in Hayes earlier this month. His visit, accompanied by local officers, was intended both as a gesture of support and a chance to listen directly to community concerns at a moment of deep shock and grief.
Faith communities, he emphasised, remain central to London’s diversity and resilience, and the Met is committed to protecting them. During the visit, Jukes expressed condolences to Kirandeep’s family and acknowledged the profound impact her death has had on Sikh Londoners. “I am here today to show the Met’s commitment to Sikh communities right across London. I understand the concern and shock many people have felt following the tragic loss of Kirandeep Kaur, and my thoughts remain with her family,” he said.
He noted that officers had acted swiftly, arresting and charging a suspect soon after the incident. While investigators do not believe there is any wider threat to the community, the Met has increased local patrols as a precaution, including around gurdwaras. “Our investigators are determined to find all the answers they can to the questions those affected have about what happened to Kirandeep, and why,” he added.
The Deputy Commissioner also highlighted the Met’s ongoing engagement with Sikh organisations across the capital, pointing to regular partnership meetings designed to ensure concerns are heard and acted upon. The Southall visit formed part of that continuing dialogue, reinforcing the message that the Met stands with the community and remains focused on securing justice for Kirandeep and her family.
