A 19-year-old man from Southall has appeared in court to face a charge of murdering a student last month.

Dino Donaldson of Caxton Road also faced two counts of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs at a hearing at Westminster Magistrates Court this Tuesday.

He is accused of killing 21-year-old Anojan Gnaneswaran inside Strawberry Hill station on Monday 8 January.

British Transport Police say they responded to a call to the station reporting a stabbing at 11.53pm. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene on the platform despite the efforts of paramedics to save him and a 16-year-old boy was found with a knife wound to his leg. Four males were arrested in the vicinity including the teenager that was stabbed.

The relatives of the deceased released a statement which said, “Anojan was a much-loved son and brother, and we are devastated that his young life has been ended in this way.

“He was in his third year at university studying accounting and finance and he was so excited for his future.

“He excelled at all sports and had achieved first-dan black belt in karate – he competed in the World and European championships in karate, and we will all miss him so much.”

Mr Donaldson was initially released under investigation along with two of the other males arrested. The 16-year-old boy was released on bail.
