A 16-year-old boy has been convicted of the manslaughter of a 62-year-old man in Hanwell.

Jerald Netto from Southall was walking near the junction of Boston Road and Uxbridge Road on Sunday 19 March this year at around 12:50am when, unprovoked, the teenager ran up to him and put his foot between his legs knocking him to the ground near the Clocktower.

CCTV of the incident shows Mr Netto falling forward onto the pavement, stumbling and immediately suffering a massive heart attack. He was treated at the scene by paramedics but died a few hours later in hospital.

The defendant, who cannot be identified because he is a minor, has been warned by the judge the Old Bailey this Thursday (2 November) that he faces a custodial sentence.

Judge Rebecca Trowler KC said, “I am aware that the defendant has admitted responsibility for the physical act from the outset and so the only factor that has changed today in legal terms is causation has been accepted on his behalf and therefore plea has been entered."

He will be sentenced on 12 January next year and has been remanded into the care of the local authority which ‘stringent conditions’.
