A murder investigation has been launched after a man was flung from a car near Hanger Lane.

The victim fell into the eastbound lane of the A40 just after midnight earlier today. He was taken to hospital in a critical condition but died seven hours later.

Police know the identity of the dead man, who is in his early twenties, and his family have been informed.

As a result of the incident the A40 eastbound was closed for much of today causing major traffic jams in the area.

A police spokesman said: "Police were called at 12.20am to a man found seriously injured on the eastbound A40. He was pronounced dead shortly after 7am."
