Police have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of a body in the Grand Union Canal on Christmas Day.

At 11:30am on Sunday 25 December police were called by a member of the public to reports of a body found in the Grand Union Canal at Bankside, Southall.

She has been identified as 23-year old Ruby Love from Harrow. Next of kin have been informed.

A post-mortem examination was unable to establish the cause of death.

The death is being investigated by the Homicide and Serious Crime Command and an Incident room has opened at Hendon led by Detective Chief Inspector Tim Duffield.

Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed anything suspicious near the Grand Union Canal, Bankside, Southall on, or before Christmas Day.Anyone with information is asked to contact the Incident Room on 020 8358 0400 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

On Tuesday 27 December a 27-year old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody at a north London police station.
