Councillor Kamaljit Dhindsa donned the borough’s civic robes after being elected as the new Mayor at the annual council meeting on Tuesday night (14th May).

Councillor Dhindsa has served the borough for 15 years, first as a ward councillor for Lady Margaret in 1998, moving on to represent Southall Green ward from 2002. He was also the council’s cabinet member for customer and community service in 2010.

Councillor Dhindsa takes over from Councillor Mohammad Aslam, who stepped down last night. During his year in office Councillor Aslam attended more than 450 official engagements and raised approximately £25,000 for his charities, Dementia Concern, Ealing Samaritans and British Institute for Brain Injured Children BIBIC.

The new Mayor’s charities include Macmillan Cancer Support, Shooting Star CHASE and Age UK Ealing.

The Worshipful the Mayor of the London Borough of Ealing, Councillor Dhindsa, said: “I am stepping into the shoes of a fantastic mayor, friend and fellow councillor. I am honoured to accept the role of Mayor and I intend to immerse myself into my civic duties and work hard to raise the profile of my chosen charities.

“We have the privilege of living in a hugely diverse community in Ealing and I look forward to getting to know more about the borough and the people who live here.”
