Police clear drugs and guns from Acton Park

Acton's Safer Neighbourhood Police Teams have adopted a direct approach in their fight against antisocial behaviour and criminal activity in Acton.

On Tuesday May 31st, at approximately 12:50pm officers from East Acton Safer Neighbourhood Ward Team stopped three males in Acton Park after information was received from a member of the public that three males were seen sitting on a park bench with a handgun.

The three males were stopped and searched under Section 47 of the Firearms Act 1968. One was found to be in possession of a small amount of herbal cannabis. Officers then found a small bag containing 15 wraps of cannabis lying behind the bench the suspects were using at the time of being stopped.

Officers informed the suspects that they would all be arrested for possession of drugs. One man fled the Park and was detained in Milton Road following a brief chase. A search of the area was carried out by officers from South Acton Safer Neighbourhoods Team, who had joined their colleagues earlier in the pursuit of suspect A, revealed another bag close by, which contained 26 wraps of Cannabis and a black handgun.

At 1300hrs all three males were arrested for the drugs possession with intent to supply and the possession of an imitation firearm. All three suspects have now been bailed until 29th July 2005.

 

On Wednesday 1st June 2005, officers from South Acton Safer Neighbourhoods Team revisited the park on routine patrol and discovered an unattended imitation firearm in the same area of the park from which the suspects were arrested on 31st May 2005.

At 1600hrs on Thursday 2nd June 2005, officers from East Safer Neighbourhoods Team on patrol in the park approached a group of approximately 15 youths on the suspicion of drugs activity. Adel Mohammed Ahmed, of Murray Road, South Ealing was found in possession of eighteen wraps of cannabis and has been charged with drugs possession with intent to supply. He will appear at Ealing Magistrates court on Wednesday 8th June 2005.

 

Police Sergeant Bob Butler East Acton Safer Neighbourhoods Team said, “We are actively patrolling the areas of concern in our ward to combat crime and antisocial behaviour in an effort to improve neighbourhood safety. We will not tolerate the use of drugs and firearms in our communities and are fully committed too tackling these issues. The recent arrests will go some way to ensuring that ActonPark continues to remain a trouble free and safe environment for all residents and visitors to make use of.”
