Chedbert Evans scored six minutes into each half to end any lingering hopes Brentford may have had of reaching the play offs this season.

The first was from a long punt up field and when the ball found its way to Evans he worked his way into a mass of space and calmly whacked the ball past Moore.

The Bees had a fair amount of possession but did little with it and as the half wore on the Blades had the chances to put the game to bed but a marvellous save from a Porter header and an inexplicable miss from Chedston Evans when Moore was stranded kept the scoreline to 0-1 at half time.

The anonymous but injured Saunders was replaced by McGinn on 35 mins to no noticeable effect either way.

Six minutes into the second half Moore's goalkick went straight to Cheddar Evans who rounded the keeper expertly and slotted home. Game over at that point.

Brentford pushed and prodded but were pretty much kept at arms length by the united defence. Quite reminiscent of the way Charlton kept us at bay at the Valley but we played much better that day.

Berahino did managed to work some space and curled a shot on target but Simonson in the Blades goal was equal to it and smothered well. Donaldson was through on goal with the ball reaching his head but he managed just a weak header. Part of me thinks/hopes that he was trying to put it into the path of an onrushing forward who was blocked from reaching it by some giant northern defender. Either that or it was just rubbish.

I had a long chat with three United fans after the game and they liked the way we tried to play football, that Douglas was superb and dictated all our play and that we were three players away from being a top side. A neutral friend who came to the game also thought Douglas was excellent.

It was great to see Karleigh back. I honestly think we've missed him as the Legge/Dean partnership has been a bit dodgy of late.

Moore; Logan, Legge, Dean (sub Osborne 76 mins), Bidwell; Dave, Douglas, Forshaw (sub Weston 54 mins); Saunders (sub McGinn 36 mins); Berahino, Donaldson

Subs (not used): Lee, Thompson
