Ealing councillor (and intrepid explorer) enjoys a makeover

After a few busy weeks it was nice to be asked to review Dapper, the new grooming shop in Ealing town centre.

Based on the high street it is easy to get to, just round the corner from Ealing Broadway Station and on good bus routes and when inside, you feel out of the way from the hurly burly. There is some low level music to put your mind in a relaxed frame of mind.

They offer a great range of hair/skin and cosmetic procedures that lots of men would probably like to try but previously wouldn't know where to go - now you do.

I started off sitting down in a very comfy chair, considering what I wanted doing with my hair. Alongside some friendly conversation I had a simple haircut which removed some recent grey hairs, probably taking 5 years off my look.

Then, after a drink of coffee (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic refreshments are available), I had a beard trim, done to my specifications. What made the shave and trim much nicer than usual was that my skin was cleansed first, before the use of a hot towel and then shaves using a sharp knife. After the balm was added my skin felt nourished and sparkling. 

Dapper offer a large range of services such as manicures and waxing, but I thought a shoulder and body massage was required after a few weeks of physical activity to loosen my tight muscles.

I sat on the massage chair and within just ten minutes my back felt alive again. I thought the arm massages were wonderful and the massage ended with an interesting technique to release any muscle tension – being gently hit with a soft ball connected to a handle! If I had seen he was going to do this (I didn’t as I had my eyes closed) I possibly would have said no. But when I stood up I felt like all the week’s stresses had dissipated.

As part of the session I was given some helpful tips on health and exercise to reduce muscle tension in the future.
