Great to have the Bearcat Comedy Club back in Hanwell after its summer break.

Opening the night was Otiz Cannelloni with his mix of gags and magic / mindreading.

Kate Lucas is a musical comedian that I’d not seen before. Boy has she got a dark, dry wit. She sang songs including her exasperation at giving birth to an ugly baby which she tried to return to the maternity ward (wouldn't want to see her try that one in the coffee shops of Northfield Ave) and about how easy it is to wish all sorts of inappropriate punishments to anyone guilty of even minor domestic transgressions in the kitchen. Really funny and the crowd loved her.

She won the Leicester Mercury Comedian of the year last year – which should auger well as previous winners include lots of well known names like Johnny Vegas, Jason Manford and  Rhod Gilbert,

But the crowd was there for Omid Djalili who’s been a successful comedian, actor and film star for over 20 years. He mentioned very early on that he performed at the Viaduct when he started out in the 1990s – and got racially abused in the car park.

He seems to have forgiven Hanwell for that and kept us laughing with a routine that plays on his British / Iranian background. He managed to raise a laugh out of all sorts – asylum seekers, terrorists and feminism - in his razor sharp observational wit.

This next Friday sees Canadian Stand-up, Mike Wilmot, fellow countryman, Tom Stade, (who’s well worth seeing) Alistair Williams & Will Duggan.

Book soon as tickets are going fast.
