Increased majority for veteran MP to provide clean sweep in borough
As expected the incumbent long standing Labour MP Virendra Sharma has held his Ealing Southall seat with a larger majority.
Giving his acceptance speech the MP spoke about his 49 years in Ealing Southall, and his life committed to public service.
"Ealing Southall has spoken, and it has rejected division and it has embraced unity.
We are diverse, and of every race - every religion and every nation on earth, but from Hanwell to Old Southall we are one community. Our diversity brings us strength and it brings us together.
''I stand proudly for Labour values, and soon we hope we can put them into practice. Investing in young people, investing in the NHS and investing in this country. A country that is for the many and not for the few.
''That is my pledge, to fight. To fight for the many. To serve Ealing Southall and to continue to unite the community. To fight for everyone here and to help the most vulnerable. Not the few."
His victory was the third to be announced in Ealing borough and completed a clean sweep for Labour which began with a stunning victory for Rupa Huq in Ealing Central and Acton.
