Local Quiz and Auction as part of annual 24/7 campaign

Ealing, Hammersmith and Hounslow Samaritans will kick off their 24/7 campaign this year with a Pub Quiz and Auction on 23 July at 8.30pm at The Plough Inn in Northfield Avenue.

Volunteers from the branch welcome anyone and everyone to join them and other supporters to pit their wits against each other for the chance to win fabulous prizes.

Entry to the event is free, and a variety of organisations and individuals have shown their support by donating items. These include:
• A section of the X-Men 3 script, leather bound and signed by Sir Ian McKellen
• A tie worn by Ian Hislop on TV
• A specially handwritten and signed copy of a poem by Sir Andrew Motion
• A course by Alain de Botton at his School of Life in central London worth £200
• Signed photos of Jimmy Carr, Simon Cowell, Frankie Boyle and Boris Johnson
• Many more!

Said Stephen Pettitt Director of Ealing, Hammersmith and Hounslow Samaritans, “I’m very grateful to all of our donors for their amazing generosity in offering us some singularly covetable items, and also to Andrew Durn, the landlord of The Plough, and his staff for their continuing support. Last year’s event was a huge success, and we’re aiming to make this year’s event at least as much fun!”

The chosen date for National Samaritans Day is no coincidence – 24/7 represents the round-the-clock availability of the service for anyone in distress or despair. Bringing this message to the local community, dedicated Ealing Samaritans will continue their 24/7 campaign on 24 July itself by collecting donations from the public at several local tube stations in the area during the morning and evening rush hours.

This year's 24/7 activities follow the successful launch of Ealing Samaritans' New Room Appeal last 24/7, which reached 20% of its target in under a year. The £60,000 capital appeal will finance the building of an extension to the Samaritans Centre at 26 Junction Road, W5 4XL, providing additional training and meeting facilities.
