Rent, the musical comes to The Questors Theatre in West London
It is the ninth longest running show on Broadway, and has travelled all over the world. Now the popular musical Rent is showing in Ealing at The Questors Theatre, 11 – 18 June 2011.
Written by Jonathon Larson, this rock opera tells the story of impoverished young artists struggling to survive and be creative in the Bohemian scene of New York’s Lower East Side. Beneath the shadow of HIV/AIDS, and with its powerful social and personal themes, Rent reveals a world on the fringes of mainstream society, with characters making choices which many people still find taboo – and brings it thrillingly to life on stage through a powerful, emotive, humorous and entertaining performance.
The Questors cast are certainly some of Britain’s best amateur performers. Huge voices, great dancing, and superb acting, this is definitely a show to experience.
Gary Reid, Director of Rent and Ealing local, said, “The standard of this cast is incredible. They are completely committed as well as great fun, but most of all they’re full of talent. I can’t believe I found 17 people who not only can sing, act and dance, but also just mesh together like they’ve known each other for years. We’re like one big family, and it shows on stage. The emotion and relationships are so real and they’ve bought a tear to my eye already. Watch out for Act Two! “
Choreographer and cast member for Rent, and Ealing local, Megan Singleton, said: “Rent has been such an amazing show to be a part of. These are some of the best performers I’ve worked with. Vocally and rhythmically they’re astounding, but they are also such a friendly, welcoming bunch. I can’t wait until opening night. Rent is one of the hottest musicals to ever grace the stage at The Questors.”
The Questors Theatre is one of the largest community theatre companies in Europe, and its reputation is just as astounding. Seating 300 in the Playhouse where Rent will be staged. The Questors has always been acclaimed for championing new or rarely performed plays alongside mainstream modern and classical world dramas and musicals – a place where the production of Rent has been warmly welcomed.
