Councillor Julian Bell, leader of Ealing Council, said: “I never fail to be struck by the stories I’ve heard and read about the people from our borough who served in the wars and those who lost their lives; it brings the reality of those events to the front of your mind. Our memorials are much more than just a list on a block of stone. They are a lasting reminder of the human face of war and the sacrifices made.”

To commemorate the centenary of the start of the First World War, the council is continuing to make repairs and improvements to the war memorials across the borough. Thousands of poppies were also planted this year across the borough as a symbol of the sacrifice made by so many.
