There is one last chance to enjoy music and good food with friends this summer at OPEN Ealing on Saturday 25 August.

The evening in the Orchard Café on Singapore Road will feature three acts offering an very eclectic repertoire.

Sheila Moylan’s unique combination of traditional Irish harp with the smoky blues texture of her alto voice makes for a bitter-sweet experience. She reinterprets traditional songs and gives a folk slant to modern songs. Martin Lau’s improvised flute floats over the top, resulting in a captivating multi-layered performance.

The Hyperspace Project is an extemporary band formed in 2016 with the purpose of crossing musical borders. They use acoustic instruments in their performances to perform electronic cover tracks with Kraftwerk being a particular favourite. Sax, guitar and voice typical roles are all mixed and explored and improvisation and extemporary routes will be taken eventually. In a changing world that want us all to be digital robots, they promise to pay attention to the acoustic sound – and they live up to that promise. They say, “The Project aims to present a few songs that have been forgotten from the broad public but we believe to possess an unfading musical value. We like artists like Al Jarreau, Grace Jones, Carlos Gandel, Marvin Gaye, Tom Jobim, Dave Brubeck, Kraftwerk, John Coltrane, The Doors.”

Jimmy the Dog aka Jim Ferrie grew up listening to Paul Gambaccini’s “American Top 100” and artists like Tom Petty, Steely Dan, Bruce Springsteen, Hall and Oates, Van Halen, Rick Springfield, Pat Benatar, Tom Waits, The Eagles and so on influenced his musical tastes. After years as a cover band keyboardist, Ferrie discovered Steve Earle and others in the “Americana” genre and got the bug to start writing. Now he’s got some songs published and had a little bit of radio play on the BBC and tries to get out and play open mics in London when he can.
