Still in the City is a contemporary dance piece that explores the relationship between people in the city, in a world where we live isolated, disconnected lives. An improvised piece with an open score and an invitation for the audience to become part.

Curated by Ensemble Dance Co founder Hayley Matthews, the piece is visiting Berlin, London, Plymouth and Norwich this year and next. In each location Hayley works with dancers and musicians living in the city where the performance is taking place and grows the work from the fabric of each place.

“The piece is very much a journey, it’s about becoming aware of patterns and habits and stripping them away to get closer to who we really are as dancers and as human beings, about unveiling and getting to know, about context, spaces and people, about integration and about asking what would happen if we started with stillness and being with” Hayley Matthews

Hayley Matthews is a currently Norwich based Dancer and Maker from London. She has come to see dance as a meeting place; for people, place, space, time and practice. Her work is a sum of her trainings and experience so far, in dance, fine art, curatorship, art history and as a Rolfer - a holistic method of realigning the body.

The Ensemble Dance Co is  performing in The Welshore Community Hub (99 The Broadway West Ealing – next to the Cake Box) prior to appearing in the Islington Fringe Festival at the Cockpit Theatre on 16 August 2015.
