It might be January but there's no time like the present to think about the Ealing Half Marathon and get applications in for the smaller version.

Due to demand, entries for this year’s Ealing Mini Mile are now open. The Ealing Mini Mile takes place on Ealing Half Marathon race day Sunday 25th September and starts at 9.15 am, fifteen minutes after the half marathon.

The first Ealing Mini Mile took place in 2013 and has become a popular event in the calendar for young runners of all levels aged 6 – 16 who want to be a part of the race day atmosphere and experience the crossing of the finish line of a big race. This race sells out each year and anyone wishing to take part should sign up as soon as possible.

The runners cover a one mile route around Ealing’s Lammas Park where the race and charity village are located. A total of 400 places are available and the age categories are 6-11 and 12-16 years. There will be prizes for the winners of the different age categories and every runner gets their finish time.

The entry fee for the Ealing Mini Mile is £7.50 per child which includes a medal and a t-shirt for all finishers. Online registration is open now and limited to 400 places, further info can be found on the event's web site.

“We are pleased to announce the opening of entries for the 4th Ealing Mini Mile. Year after year we encourage and inspire young runners of all levels and all abilities to get involved and to take part, and we are expecting the 2016 places to be snapped up quickly. We will work closely with local schools again to raise awareness of the Ealing Mini Mile whilst continuing to promote running as a sport that is accessible to everyone.

“Taking part in the Mini Mile gives youngsters the opportunity to experience the atmosphere of a big race, and we are hoping to see many of them on the start line of the half marathon in years to come.

“We are also excited to announce that Montpelier Primary School in Ealing will do the design for the 2016 Ealing Mini Mile finisher t-shirts.”

Dan Tsantilis, whose daughter Audrey ran the 2015 Ealing Mini Mile, said: "Audrey was so excited doing the Mini Mile and being a part of the fantastic friendly atmosphere of the Ealing Half. She still talks about it months later and definitely got the #EalingFeeling!”

The Ealing Mini Mile sees entries from junior members of the local athletics clubs as well as offspring of the Ealing Half Marathon runners who will be in the park to cheer on their Mum or Dad, plus a large number of youngsters who have never taken part in a running event before.

Current Mini Mile course records are held by Charlotte Buckley from Thames Valley Harriers (00:05:43) and Joseph Barnes (00:05:18). Last year’s winners were Maximilian Steel (6:10) and Millie Vadon (7:37) in the 6–11 years category, whilst Luke Adar (5:30) and Feia Starkey (6:18) claimed first place in the 12-16 years category.

The Ealing Half Marathon 2016 takes place on Sunday 25th September and will be celebrating its 5th anniversary. The race is well known for its huge community support and great atmosphere with runners travelling from all over the UK and abroad to experience the #EalingFeeling. A total of 8,000 places are available for 2016 and entries cost £36 for affiliated runners and £38 for unaffiliated runners.
